'Not an ordinary year': Pakistani students receive their CIE AS & A Level results for June series

On Tuesday, students of Cambridge International Education (CIE) in Pakistan received their AS and A Level results for the June 2026 exam series. CIE, part of Cambridge University Press and Assessment, provides internationally recognized exams to schools in over 160 countries. In Pakistan, O Levels (grades 9-10) cover a broad range of subjects, while A and AS Levels (grades 11-12) are specialized and provide pathways to higher education both domestically and internationally.

While nearly 368,000 AS & A Level students worldwide received their results, over 315,000 who took the Cambridge IGCSE and O Level exams globally will receive theirs on August 18, according to a CIE press release. More than 100,000 students from over 850 schools in Pakistan sat for the June 2026 exam series this year. Physics, Mathematics, Business, Chemistry, and Computer Science were the most popular subjects in Pakistan.

The June series in Pakistan and other regions was disrupted by the leak of the AS/A Level Mathematics Paper 12, which the CIE subsequently canceled and rescheduled for June 9. Uzma Yousuf, CIE's country director for International Education, commended the learners who received their exam results. "This has not been an ordinary year.

Some students prepared for their examinations amidst regional tensions, uncertainty, and disruption, making today's achievement even more meaningful," she said, citing the support of teachers, parents, and school communities. Yousuf emphasized that education is about more than exam results, focusing on building knowledge, confidence, and skills for university, career, and life.

CIE expressed its commitment to innovation in assessments, such as its digital exams pilot this year and modular assessment options at A Level, to enhance inclusivity and flexibility for students. Entries for Cambridge International AS & A Levels increased by 5% from the previous year, reflecting the growing global demand for qualifications that offer a trusted route to higher education.

Rod Smith, group managing director for International Education at Cambridge, also congratulated the students, noting that more learners are choosing AS & A Levels due to their deep subject knowledge and the skills valued by universities and employers. Smith highlighted the continued growth of AS & A Levels, driven by their combination with AI, and confidence in their growing importance in the years ahead.

Whether students choose to study at home or abroad, CIE qualifications open doors to opportunity and prepare learners for success in a rapidly changing world, as A Level students have a 98% acceptance rate to UK universities in the 2025 cycle. CIE noted that new UCAS application data demonstrated the standing of AS & A Levels as a "route to higher education."

In parts of the Middle East, school closures due to regional conflict prevented exams from being taken safely, affecting nearly 30,000 Cambridge students, who worked closely with their schools to manage the situation.
