NEEAP 2.0 targets RM85.24b savings, 11.6 per cent reduction in energy demand by 2035

Malaysia's National Energy Efficiency Policy and Action Plan 2026-2035 (NEEAP 2.0) aims to save RM85.24 billion, decrease energy demand by 11.6%, and generate 815,383 terajoules (TJ) in energy savings by 2035. The plan, guided by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024, also anticipates a 26,108 kilotonnes CO₂eq reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir launched the policy, emphasizing the importance of energy efficiency for competitiveness and grid pressure reduction. The plan's four strategic thrusts include energy efficiency plan implementation, workforce reskilling and upskilling, sustainable funding mechanisms, and private sector EE initiatives.

NEEAP 2.0 aligns with Malaysia's energy policies and roadmaps, including National Energy Policy 2022-2040 and the 12th and 13th Malaysia Plans. The ministry expects the plan to attract RM36 billion in private investment, create 29,000 jobs, and contribute significantly to the nation's energy transition towards net-zero emissions by 2050.
