MLB-worst Angels fire pitching coach Mike Maddux, 2 assistants in staff shakeup

The Los Angeles Angels have parted ways with pitching coach Mike Maddux, bullpen coach Dom Chiti, and assistant pitching coach Darryl Scott as part of a coaching staff shakeup. The team, currently at the bottom of the MLB standings with a 45-74 record, is set to enter its 11th consecutive losing season. General manager Perry Minasian was also recently dismissed.

Interim front-office leader John Mozeliak explained the decisions, stating that the changes were made after discussions with first-year manager Kurt Suzuki, with the aim of elevating the pitching program and positioning the team for future success. Tim Leveque, who is newly appointed as interim pitching coach, and Michael Wuertz, taking over as interim bullpen coach, will step into the roles vacated by Maddux, Chiti, and Scott.
