Menteri batal larangan memoir Shamsiah Fakeh

Former Communist Party of Malaya (PKM) leader Shamsiah Fakeh's memoir, titled "From Avows to Regime 10," has been banned by the Minister of Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. In a government statement, Saifuddin cited the Printing and Publications Act to ban the book. The authorities also banned another PKM member's memoir, "Komrad Asi (Regime 10): In Nihilist Historical Turmoil," by Aziz Suriani.

The government deemed these books as containing communist elements and ideologies. Chong Ton Sin Publishing, the book's publisher, subsequently filed an appeal in the Federal Court, arguing that the ban was irrational given that the two books had been in circulation for years. Their lawyer, S Abhilaash, stated that they had withdrawn the appeal.

Petaling Jaya MP from PKR, Lee Chean Chung, and Bandar Utama MP from DAP, Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who are also Shamsiah's grandchildren, have previously criticized the ban. Jamaliah reportedly said that the memoir focused on her grandmother's life and experiences without promoting any extremist activities, so they were disappointed with the government's irrational action.
