Math, logic skills key to preparing Qatar’s digital leaders, says educator

Qatari educator Fahad Mohammed al-Meer emphasized the importance of mathematics and logical thinking skills in preparing students for future scientific and technology careers during an achievement announcement following an international competition in Milan. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education's focus on these subjects reflects their significance as foundational elements for developing students' logical thinking abilities.

Strengthening these skills from middle school through Grade 12 allows students to explore a wider range of university education and future scientific careers. Al-Meer stressed that the younger generation will be key drivers of Qatar's digital transformation, mastering artificial intelligence technologies and adapting to the country's rapid technological advancements.

Drawing from his own experience, he stressed the importance of guiding students towards scientific fields and specializations that can help develop digital leaders needed in Qatar by 2030 and beyond. The students' success was highlighted by their performance at the 2026 International Mathematics and Logic Games Championships in Milan, where they earned eight honorary certificates, demonstrating their ability to compete successfully on the global scientific stage.

Al-Meer described the achievement as "an eye-opener for parents" and urged them to guide their children towards educational paths and future specializations that support Qatar's digital transformation and Qatar National Vision 2030 goals. The competition, organized by the MoEHE's Educational Affairs Sector in collaboration with local and international coaches, attracted hundreds of young mathematics enthusiasts from around the world.

The 2026 edition was the 40th international edition and the 33rd organized in Italy, attracting 595 competitors from 23 countries. The competition has grown significantly since its inception, with the 2026 edition seeing a registration of over 35,000 participants. This latest achievement further strengthens Qatar's presence in global academic and scientific forums, showcasing the potential of its young talents and the effectiveness of programs in transforming mathematical ability, logical thinking, and creativity into internationally recognized excellence.
