Manitoba RCMP investigating death of 4-year-old girl, injuries to 2 toddlers

The Manitoba RCMP is investigating the death of a four-year-old girl in the province, with the incident being deemed "suspicious." The Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to a call for a child in medical distress, arriving at the scene over 110 kilometres outside of Winnipeg at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday morning. Despite medical efforts, the four-year-old was pronounced dead at the location.

Two other young girls, aged one and two, were also present at the home and were transported to the hospital due to their condition. One of the children was in critical condition when transported, but both are now in stable condition, according to police. The Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services (MCS) has been called to assist due to the suspicious nature of the child's death and the serious injuries suffered by the two younger children.

Superintendent Rob Lasson, in charge of MCS, described the events as "troubling" and expressed concern for the community seeking answers. The investigation will be handled by the major crime team, alongside forensic identification services, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
