Man returning from Democratic Republic of Congo hospitalized over suspected Ebola infection

A man who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo is being treated in isolation at the Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva, Israel, on suspicion of contracting Ebola, according to the Israeli Health Ministry. The patient sought medical attention after experiencing a fever and is undergoing testing to confirm the suspected infection.

Results are anticipated within the next 24 hours. The health ministry has initiated an epidemiological investigation to monitor the situation. It is important to note that this case is currently only considered a suspected Ebola infection, and the ministry has been proactive in preparing Israel's health systems for the possibility of an outbreak originating from Congo or Uganda.

The ministry has also advised the public to refrain from nonessential travel to those regions. Individuals who have recently returned from Congo or Uganda and develop a fever or other symptoms within a 21-day period are advised to stay at home and contact the Health Ministry's hotline immediately for guidance.
