Man drowns while swimming in private dam in Machakos

On Monday, August 10, 2026, a 20-year-old man named Joshua Mutuku Muisuo tragically drowned while swimming in a private dam located in Nthangathini Village, Ndithini Sub-County, Machakos County.

Upon receiving a report of the incident, police officers swiftly arrived at the scene. They identified Muisuo, a youthful man, and confirmed that he had drowned while engaging in swimming activities in the private dam.

Surprisingly, there were no visible injuries on Muisuo's body, suggesting that the drowning was sudden and unexpected. The deceased's remains were carefully collected by members of the public and subsequently taken to Tala Hospital mortuary for preservation until an autopsy could be conducted.

Following this incident, police in Cheptais, Bungoma County, also launched an investigation after an unidentified 17-year-old man named Dawin Kiprop Sioy was discovered floating in the Malakisi River. Sioy, a Sabaot from Kimama Central Village, Chemondi Sub-location, was reportedly taking a bath when he noticed the body floating in the water.

Police officers were promptly notified of Sioy's discovery and proceeded to the scene to recover the body. After processing the area, they found no visible injuries on Sioy's body. The remains were then transported to the Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary for identification and autopsy purposes.

As investigations are currently underway to determine the identity of the deceased in Cheptais and establish the circumstances surrounding his death, it is crucial to reflect on the importance of water safety, especially in private or unfamiliar bodies of water.
