Teachers and computer experts lead the unpaid overtime bubble: 83% of their excess hours are not compensated.

Spanish salaried workers do an average of 6.43 million weekly overtime hours, according to the annualized calculations made by the economic cabinet of Comisiones Obreras (CC OO) based on data from the Active Population Survey (EPA). However, despite the law requiring it, employers do not compensate for four out of every ten of these hours (2.54 million), which is something they do with the rest (3.89 million).

Beyond these general figures, however, the incidence of the working day that goes unremunerated varies greatly depending on where one works. A more detailed analysis of the data focuses on six sectors, led by education and telecommunications and computer services, where unpaid overtime far exceeds paid overtime. By territory, this also occurs in Madrid, the only region where uncompensated overtime hours exceed those that are compensated.
