Lee says state's primary duty is to protect people's lives, safety

President Lee Jae Myung emphasized on August 11 that the government's primary responsibility is to safeguard the lives and well-being of its citizens. The head of state made this statement during the inauguration of Korea's inaugural hospital exclusively for first responders. Lee stated, "The primary duty of the state is to protect its people's lives and safety."

Firefighters play a crucial role in fulfilling this duty at accident scenes and during disasters, according to the president, who emphasized that their efforts enable people to lead safe and peaceful lives. The National Fire Hospital in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, stands as the nation's first general facility dedicated to treating firefighters and other first responders, while also conducting research focused on their occupational health requirements.

The hospital commenced operations in June, offering healthcare services to firefighters, police personnel, their families, and local residents. Lee expressed hope that the National Fire Hospital would become a dependable source of care that comprehensively understands and addresses the needs of those who serve. In his address to the first responders, the president pledged government support and investment to establish the hospital as a regional public health care hub in North Chungcheong Province.

Lee concluded his remarks by expressing confidence that a nation that prioritizes the protection and well-being of its heroes who risk their lives in perilous circumstances would be considered a truly commendable society.
