Kenapa dedah dulu RCI TH sebelum sidang khas, soal Takiyuddin

PIC Takiyuddin Hassan, the Senior Deputy Chief of the People’s Alliance (PN), has raised concerns over the disclosure of the Suruhanjaya Siasatan Diraja (RCI) Tabung Haji (TH) report before the parliamentary session. During the session, Speaker Dewan Rakyat Johari Abdul refused to postpone the special session of the report. Takiyuddin questioned the way the content of the report was made public prior to its presentation in the House.

The practice of revealing the report before the House is a clear indication that the debates in the House now lack distinctiveness compared to those held outside Parliament, unless the Prime Minister is physically present to defend the report before the people's representatives, according to his statement. The opposition parties emphasized that the House of Representatives should not become merely a platform for announcements without room for discussion and fundamental determinations for the benefit of the TH investigation and national financial integrity.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently underwent an elective laparoscopic surgery to treat his abdominal hernia, leading to the postponement of the special session. Despite the absence of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Takiyuddin argued that the debate without his presence would render the special session merely a media spectacle, as the Prime Minister, who initiated the issue, was not present in the House to respond and wrap up the debate.

However, Johari insisted that the debate would continue as Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi and other ministers were present to represent the Cabinet. The RCI report was classified and made public on July 29, approximately four years after the advisory completed its investigation in July 2022. PAS Youth Leader Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden expressed disappointment as no motion was passed in the special session, which he believed only involved ministers providing updates on the actions taken so far.

"Ministers tell what they've done. Members of Parliament ask, and ministers respond. That's it. Either it's a media session or a journalist asks and the minister responds. We don't want that. We want a motion. With a motion, there's voting. With voting, there's a decision for the government to take action. That's the function of the House of Representatives," he said in a separate statement.
