Kelantan opens 63 investigation papers into illegal mining, encroachment

Kota Bharu, August 11 — Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan announced the opening of 63 investigation papers related to illegal mining and encroachment activities in the state from 2025 to June 2025. These investigations stemmed from 77 enforcement operations conducted in hotspot areas, including Gua Musang, Kuala Krai, Jeli, and Tanah Merah districts.

The Kelantan government has ramped up its efforts to curb these activities, with the authorities seizing 65 excavators, valued at RM15.8 million, to disrupt the logistical support of such operations. Fadzli also stated that the authorities would investigate and identify those involved in the illegal activities, including middlemen, masterminds, organizers, protectors, or anyone benefiting from them.

Once illegal activities are confirmed, a police report will be filed and an investigation paper will be opened. The state government is also working with authorities and the Prosecution Unit of the Kelantan Land and Mines Office to review penalties for repeat offenses, aiming to implement stricter actions.
