Israel elections 2026: What does Tropper and Hendel's Zionist Home–The Reservists stand for?

In the upcoming 2026 Israeli elections, the Zionist Home–The Reservists, led by former Blue and White members and ex-ministers Chili Tropper and Yoaz Hendel, are a party to watch. This party, formed in July, is the successor to Hendel's The Reservists and is not strictly defined as left or right, but leans towards center/right policies.

Tropper and Hendel, who have announced they will lead the party as equal partners, aim to create a "broad Zionist government." They are seen as potential kingmakers in the election, as they may hold the seats needed to form a coalition. Recent polls show the party hovering around the electoral threshold, with the potential to enter the Knesset with around four seats.

The party's platform, known as the Star of David Plan, covers seven key areas: education, equal service, cost of living, settlements, checks and balances, governance, and border-community rehabilitation. However, it has yet to fully outline its positions on major issues such as foreign affairs, Iran, and the Palestinian issue. Despite this, the party is known to have a hawkish, right-wing stance.

One of the party's key demands is that former communications minister Hendel be appointed National Security Minister if they join a coalition, due to his security background. The party supports Israeli settlements and a two-state solution but opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state. They also pledge to provide benefits for those who serve in the military and enforce sanctions for draft evaders.
