Independence Day travel advisory: Reach Delhi stations early, parcel booking suspended at 5 terminals

Northern Railway has issued a travel advisory for Delhi train passengers ahead of Independence Day on August 15. The advisory urges travelers to reach their stations well in advance due to increased security measures and heavier passenger movement. Delhi boasts over 40 railway stations, with major terminals such as New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla handling numerous long-distance trains.

Smaller local stations include Delhi Cantonment, Shakur Basti, Subzi Mandi, and Tilak Bridge. Security checks at Delhi area stations will be heightened from August 13 to 16 in preparation for the holiday. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with security personnel. Rail Madad Helpline 139 can be contacted for assistance.

Additionally, parcel booking and handling services will be suspended at five major Delhi railway stations from August 12 to 15. These stations include New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla. The ban extends to all inward and outward parcel traffic, including leased second-class luggage rack coaches, parcel vans, and demand parcel vans.

Parcel warehouses and platforms must also remain free of packages and packing materials. Trains originating from Delhi or stopping at these stations for parcel loading/unloading will also be affected. Registered newspapers and magazines can still be booked after completing commercial formalities and security checks. This restriction applies to all trains passing through these stations.
