Gauteng adds seven new mobile clinics to boost healthcare access

Gauteng is increasing its mobile clinic network as the province faces a surge in population and a rise in demand for healthcare services. The Gauteng Health Department has introduced seven additional fully-equipped mobile clinics, raising the total fleet to 53 units. These clinics will be stationed in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, and Sedibeng, with a focus on reaching communities that lack access to fixed healthcare facilities.

According to the department's spokesperson, Steve Mabona, the mobile clinics will offer a range of services such as HIV and TB testing, screenings for hypertension and diabetes, and referrals for patients who require further medical attention. The initiatives will also encompass health promotion and patient referrals specifically tailored for women, children, and young people.

Mabona emphasized the department's commitment to monitoring the clinics, ensuring they are appropriately maintained, staffed, equipped, and deployed in areas where they are most needed. The addition of these seven mobile clinics brings the total number of mobile clinics in Gauteng to 53, as reported by Culvin Mabasa in a media statement on August 11, 2026.
