From flavourful mixed-bredie fights, to knockouts and a marriage proposal: PFC had it all

The Professional Fighting Championship (PFC) returned to its roots on Saturday night, hosting an Old School or Day One event at Wolraad Woltemade Primary School in Bothasig. Despite being smaller in scale, the intimate atmosphere attracted over 600 spectators who were eager for thrilling combat sport action. The event brought together a diverse group of fighters, including Nico Etzebeth who melted hearts when he proposed to his girlfriend inside the ring after winning his Boxing U/90kg bout.

The DRC fans added a unique element by bringing their energy and spirit from the upper auditorium, cheering on their countryman Jonathan Kabongo during his fight. The main event featured Liam Pearmain defending his PFC Heavyweight (U/120kg) Boxing title against Brendan Milton. Despite Milton's defensive tactics, Pearmain emerged victorious with a unanimous-decision win.

The DRC-born Hervé Zeng, a rising star in combat sports, expressed interest in fighting Pearmain in the future. Another highlight of the night was the women's boxing match between Anzel Kellerman and Luka Morris, which took place on National Women's Day and saw Kellerman emerge victorious. The co-main event between Nic Laubscher and Riyaan Russouw also ended in a KO victory for Laubscher in the second round.

The event showcased the growing amateur scene within African combat sports and the mutual respect between athletes from different disciplines.
