FirstBank Ghana deepens private education partnership with tailored financial solutions
FirstBank Ghana has strengthened its partnership with Ghana’s private education sector following an engagement with members of the Ghana National Union of Private Schools (GNUPS) to explore financial solutions to challenges confronting private schools.
FirstBank Ghana has bolstered its collaboration with Ghana’s private education sector, introducing tailored financial solutions to address challenges faced by private schools. A meeting with representatives from the Ghana National Union of Private Schools (GNUPS) aimed to explore financing options, cash flow management, infrastructure development, and other operational issues impacting the sustainability of private educational institutions.
Prior to the meeting, FirstBank conducted a public awareness campaign through radio interviews and stakeholder engagements, promoting sound financial management practices within the education sector. Private schools expressed access to affordable financing as one of their primary constraints, alongside cash flow challenges, infrastructure development, and the need for safer transportation for students.
Francis Banzie, Eastern Regional Chairman of GNUPS, commended FirstBank for offering financial products tailored to private schools’ specific needs. He highlighted that access to affordable financing remained a significant hurdle, especially for schools planning to invest in safer buses and enhance infrastructure. The Bank’s FirstEdu product could aid schools in acquiring modern buses and essential facilities without the heavy collateral requirements that have traditionally limited their growth.
FirstBank unveiled an integrated three-in-one solution: flexible financing through FirstEdu, digital collection and payment platforms, and the Junior Internship Programme (JIP). Enoch Adams, Acting Head of Retail Banking at FirstBank Ghana, emphasized the Bank’s commitment to supporting schools with solutions beyond traditional banking services.
FirstEdu tailors financing to school fee collection cycles, enabling schools to renovate and expand facilities, purchase school buses, invest in ICT infrastructure, procure learning resources, and fund other development projects without straining their cash flow. Digital platforms streamline school fee collections, payroll, and Point-of-Sale (POS) services while enhancing transparency and reducing cash handling.
Additionally, the Junior Internship Programme offers students practical workplace experience, developing financial literacy, leadership skills, and career readiness. By combining financing, digital payment solutions, and youth development initiatives, FirstBank aims to improve school efficiency and prepare students for future careers.
The Bank pledged to continue working with private education stakeholders to provide innovative financial and non-financial solutions that foster growth, enhance educational delivery, and contribute to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
