FirstBank Ghana deepens private education partnership with tailored financial solutions
FirstBank Ghana has strengthened its partnership with Ghana’s private education sector following an engagement with members of the Ghana National Union of Private Schools (GNUPS) to explore financial solutions to challenges confronting private schools.
FirstBank Ghana has bolstered its collaboration with Ghana's private education sector through a tailored financial initiative. Representatives from the Ghana National Union of Private Schools (GNUPS) convened with the bank to discuss challenges faced by private schools, including access to finance, cash-flow management, infrastructure development, and student transportation. This partnership aligns with FirstBank Ghana's SME Connect program, which offers customized financial solutions to businesses in key sectors.
Prior to the meeting, FirstBank Ghana conducted a public awareness campaign on radio and through stakeholder engagements to promote sound financial management practices within the education sector. Private schools expressed access to affordable financing as a significant obstacle to expansion and operational improvement. Concerns were also raised about cash-flow challenges, infrastructure needs, and the requirement for safer student transportation.
Francis Banzie, the Eastern Regional Chairman of GNUPS, praised FirstBank Ghana for creating financial products tailored to private schools' needs. He emphasized that affordable financing had been a major hurdle, particularly for schools considering investments in safer buses and infrastructure upgrades. The bank's FirstEdu product could facilitate the acquisition of modern buses and essential facilities without the heavy collateral demands that often hindered growth.
In response to these concerns, FirstBank Ghana unveiled an integrated three-in-one solution. This package includes flexible financing through FirstEdu, digital collection and payment platforms, and the Junior Internship Programme (JIP). Enoch Adams, the Acting Head of Retail Banking at FirstBank Ghana, highlighted the bank's commitment to providing solutions beyond traditional banking services.
FirstEdu offers financing adapted to school fee collection cycles, enabling schools to renovate facilities, acquire buses, invest in ICT infrastructure, and finance other development projects without compromising cash flow.
The digital collection and payment platforms allow schools to manage fee collections, dedicated accounts, payroll, POS services, and secure digital payments, improving transparency and reducing cash handling. The Junior Internship Programme offers students practical workplace experience, developing their financial literacy, leadership skills, and career readiness.
Adams stated that the combination of financing, digital payment solutions, and youth development initiatives would enhance school operations and prepare students for future careers.
FirstBank Ghana committed to continuing its work with private education stakeholders to provide innovative solutions that foster school growth, improve educational delivery, and contribute to Ghana's socio-economic development.
