Edmund Chen uploads dashcam footage of road accident, draws divisive reactions

Singapore actor Edmund Chen has shared what appears to be dashcam footage from his vehicle, depicting the incident that resulted in his recent jail term. On March 4, 2025, Chen's car collided with a motorcycle that was passing him on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), which caused the motorcyclist to sustain multiple fractures to his right hand.

Chen admitted guilt to careless driving in January 2026 and received a reduced sentence of one day in jail, followed by the disqualification of his driver's license for five years. The footage, uploaded to Instagram on August 10, was in response to a user's comment, since deleted, mocking Chen for being present in Singapore. Chen claimed that the criticism was driven by kindness, hoping his experience could serve as a reminder for others to remain vigilant while driving.

However, the video has sparked a split in online responses. Some users supported Chen, arguing that the motorcyclist had been speeding and maintaining an unsafe distance. In contrast, others believed that Chen had been at fault for his slow and careless lane changes, suggesting that he should share footage from the front of his car to provide a more comprehensive account of the incident.
