Dublin Bus with passengers evacuated after going on fire

A Dublin Bus carrying passengers caught fire this morning, leading to its evacuation. The incident occurred on Morehampton Road in Donnybrook, Dublin 4, shortly after 9am. Emergency services arrived on the scene and managed to put out the fire after about an hour.

One passenger recounted hearing a bang followed by a jolt. A group of young boys around 14 and 15 years old then noticed smoke, prompting everyone to stand up and evacuate the bus calmly. Diversions are now in place on both the E1 and E2 routes, with Morehampton Road closed due to the blaze.

Dublin Fire Brigade, an ambulance, and a senior officer from Donnybrook Fire Station responded to the scene. Dublin Bus has launched a full investigation into the incident. The company stated, "Dublin Bus can confirm that there was fire on a bus this morning on Route E1 on Morehampton Road. All passengers were evacuated from the bus, emergency services were called, and the fire was extinguished. There are no injuries."

Dublin Bus clarified that the bus was not an electric vehicle. A spokesperson added, "Diversions are in place for E1 and E2 routes on northbound services until further notice. Divert via Waterloo Road, Baggot Street, turning onto Pembroke Street Upper and back onto normal route."
