Dewan Rakyat Speaker confirms Wong Chen’s resignation as Subang MP, says EC notified of vacancy

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — The Dewan Rakyat Speaker has officially confirmed Wong Chen's resignation as Subang MP, informing the Election Commission of the parliamentary seat vacancy. Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul revealed that Wong Chen submitted a letter to him on August 5, surrendering his membership to the Dewan Rakyat, effective immediately.

Johari stated that he has notified the EC regarding the vacancy, in line with Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution. Wong Chen met with Johari to hand over his resignation, providing parliamentary officers with three working days to prepare for the transition. Following his resignation, the PKR MP has pledged to remove the honorific title "Yang Berhormat" from all billboards, signages, and correspondence by the following month. Wong Chen is scheduled to address the media tomorrow at 11am.
