Controversy brews in Jubilee in Kisii as hopeful fights “party elders”

Senatorial hopeful Denis Masenge has called for a more inclusive and equitable selection process for the party's leadership team in Kisii County, criticizing the influence of a few elderly leaders. The political science professor expressed concern that a small group of influential leaders, including Richard Onyonka, Omingo Magara, and Ezekiel Machogu, were attempting to dominate the process and claim sole entitlement to lead the community or determine ticket allocations.

Masenge argued that the six clans of Kisii County should have equal opportunities to participate in shaping the party's leadership and political direction ahead of the 2027 elections. He urged the party to abandon a gatekeeping approach and instead determine positions and tickets through consultation, merit, and the democratic will of the people. Masenge insisted that leadership should not be about imposing preferred individuals on voters but rather building a team that reflects the county's diversity.

The political scientist urged the party's presidential candidate, Fred Matiang'i, to ensure the process of assembling the county team is transparent, inclusive, and fair. He warned that a process perceived as favoring a select few could damage the party's credibility and alienate grassroots supporters. Masenge emphasized that every community and clan in Kisii must feel represented and respected for the party to build a strong foundation for delivering development and winning voter confidence.

He called for a leadership structure anchored on inclusivity, equity, and accountability, stating that such an approach would give the party a stronger base for success in the 2027 General Election. Masenge's remarks come amid intensifying political realignments in Kisii, with parties and camps positioning themselves to secure influential elective seats across the county.
