Colombia recognises Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights

Colombia's new President Abelardo de la Espriella has acknowledged Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The President's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the territory came as a stark contrast to his predecessor's stance. The Golan Heights is a Syrian land that has been under Israeli control since their victory in the 1967 war.

Apart from the United States, Colombia was the second country to recognize Israel's claim. This decision was made by President de la Espriella who vowed to reverse the policies of his predecessor, Gustavo Petro, who was known for his strong support of the Palestinian cause. During his tenure, Colombia was part of the Hague Group that aimed to hold Israel accountable for its actions against Palestinians.

Following de la Espriella's election, Israel has seen a surge of pro-Israel leaders across Latin America.
