The earthquake, the strongest in Colombia since 1979, has left at least 169 dead and over 500 injured, with dozens of buildings collapsed.

The hardest hit cities include Pereira, Cali, Quibdó, Manizales, and Armenia. Rescue efforts are ongoing in these areas, with Cali preparing for its music festival, which was disrupted by the disaster. The new president, Abelardo de la Espriella, declared the emergency shortly after taking office, promising to lead the country from the regions and for the regions.

The international community has shown solidarity with Colombia, with the United States pledging $15.5 million in aid and the Bank of the Latin American and Caribbean Development Bank (CAF) contributing $500,000.
