Catering cart & military aircraft: How Trump was moved out of Turkey amid Iran threat

President Donald Trump's covert transfer from an airport catering truck to a smaller military aircraft came after an Iranian assassination threat, according to The Washington Post. Initially, Trump had boarded Air Force One in Ankara during the Nato summit, but shortly after boarding, he was secretly moved to an Air Force C-32A aircraft.

This covert operation was triggered by a credible threat, and a similar move was made by then-President Bill Clinton in 2000. Journalists, who believed they were traveling with Trump on the older aircraft, were advised to keep their window shades closed during the flight. Trump later explained that they were likely on a dangerous flight.

The C-32A carrying Trump arrived in Britain around 10:20 p.m., while the older Air Force One and media arrived shortly after. Trump was transferred back to the older aircraft at 10:56 p.m., where he greeted US service members before boarding the Qatari-donated aircraft. The White House stated that the Qatar-donated jet had high-level security protocols to protect the president and his staff.
