Capricorn woman dies at Muizenberg police station following police call-out

A 46-year-old Capricorn woman passed away at Muizenberg police station on Saturday night, following a police call-out to a complaint of intimidation at her residence. Police arrived at the scene in response to a reported disturbance involving family members, who were allegedly becoming increasingly vocal, verbally abusive, and aggressive.

Two officers escorted the family members to the station in an attempt to defuse the situation. However, shortly after their departure, the woman collapsed at the police station, where she was pronounced dead by paramedics. Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the opening of an inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

The post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of her demise. Unverified reports circulating on social media suggest that the woman had recently given birth via C-section and was taken to the police station against her will; however, these claims have not been substantiated by authorities. Local media liaison officer Wayne Turner stated that the matter is being handled with urgency due to conflicting reports and speculation.

Police and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) have been contacted to handle the investigation, with the latter stating that the matter falls outside its jurisdiction and will be addressed through the local investigative process.
