Bukit Aman Cyber Crime Department head, M Kumar, stated that the public currently tends to quickly gossip about incidents like crime and accidents before reporting them, which is detrimental as the information should be relayed to the relevant agencies.

He emphasized that taking action is not just about potentially undermining investigations, but could also cause long-lasting trauma to the victim and their family. "What I want to stress is that we are too quick to gossip about incidents, whether they involve crime, accidents, or otherwise, but we often forget to relay the information to the relevant agency that could help immediately," he said during a press conference for the trailer launch of the film 'Is Not A Joke' at the Police Training Center.

Kumar stressed that the public needs to change this attitude because crime is not entertainment or humor, but a serious issue that requires action. He noted that the film is not just for entertainment, but aims to raise awareness so the public becomes more vigilant, brave enough to speak up, and report crime, including cybercrime.

According to him, combating crime is not just the responsibility of the police alone, but requires cooperation from parents and relevant authorities. As part of this, he said the police in collaboration with Dream Film Sdn Bhd are targeting approximately 100 educational institutions to deliver the message of awareness about crime through the film.

He hopes this effort can increase public awareness, even if only 10% of viewers absorb the message conveyed by the film.
