Brandon Nimmo’s single in 10th inning helps Rangers beat Angels 4-1 to snap 5-game road skid

Anaheim, Calif. (AP) — Brandon Nimmo contributed to Texas Rangers' victory by driving in the go-ahead run during the 10th inning, as the Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 4-1. This win effectively ended a five-game road losing streak for the Texas team. Texas has secured five wins out of their last six games overall, placing them just half a game behind the AL West-leading Houston team.

Brandon Nimmo and Elias Díaz both had two hits and an RBI in the game. Peyton Gray (6-0) earned the win with a pitch that resulted in a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Jacob Latz worked a scoreless 10th inning, marking his 23rd save of the season. With Luke Murphy starting the 10th inning for the Angels, Wyatt Langford drew a walk and Corey Seager set the stage by singling to load the bases.

Ezequiel Duran popped out, allowing Blake Weiman to replace Murphy, leading to Nimmo's line drive single that drove in Nicky Lopez, scoring the decisive run.

Mike Trout, the three-time AL MVP, hit a 418-foot shot in the first inning, achieving his 20th home run of the season that inning. Trout went 1 for 2 and walked three times, one of which was intentional. Angels right fielder Wade Meckler made a defensive play, robbing Seager of a home run to end the seventh inning and keep the score at 1-1.

Elias Díaz contributed to the game's momentum by singling to drive in Duran, making it a 1-1 tie. Texas starter MacKenzie Gore struck out nine in 5 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and walking two. The 27-year-old left-hander was recently reinstated from paternity leave after his fiancée, Alex, had a child. Angels starter Reid Detmers went six innings, giving up one run and six strikeouts, allowing three hits and walking four.

As the series continues, Angels RHP Ryan Johnson, who has a 2-6 record with a 7.11 ERA, will face Texas LHP Cody Bradford, who has a 0-0 record and a 0.00 ERA.
