Bode George Urges Onaiyekan to Ignore Wike

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, has advised Cardinal John Onaiyekan not to be concerned about the intense criticism from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike regarding his views on the nation's situation. George suggested that Onaiyekan should draw lessons from the experiences of Desmond Tutu in South Africa, who remained steadfast despite facing persecution in his later years.

George emphasized that irrespective of how much pressure Nyesom Wike may exert, genuine Nigerian clerics and Christians will continue to voice their truth to authority. He pointed out that Nyesom Wike's attack on Cardinal Onaiyekan seemed nonsensical to the average Nigerian, as it appeared that the official was implying Onaiyekan's statements only represented Catholics, disregarding the impact of anti-people policies on other Christians, Muslims, and atheists.

George also commented on a parallel situation in the Bible where Pilate asked the people to choose between Jesus Christ's crucifixion and Barabbas, an armed robber, and the crowd chose Barabbas. He urged the Cardinal to maintain his faith and truthfully advise the government on how to improve Nigeria's status. George further noted that Cardinal Onaiyekan, being an octogenarian and a member of the conclave that elects the Pope, should not be subjected to attacks from a younger individual, such as Wike's data boy, who unjustly abused him due to political reasons. George concluded by stating that karma would soon catch up with those who engage in such behavior.
