Bhopal Comes To Standstill After Heavy Rain, Waterlogging Triggers Traffic Jams

Bhopal came to a standstill on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall, causing waterlogging and traffic jams. The torrential rain battered the city in the evening, leading to waterlogging on roads and traffic jams for the second day in a row. Specific areas such as Hoshangabad Road, Board office, Jyoti Talkies, 1100 Quarters, Kolar, Itwara, Nadra Bus stand, Jumerati, and others experienced traffic jams and waterlogging.

The Upper Lake's water level increased by three feet within two days, reaching 1663.20ft, slightly below its Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1666.8ft. Motorists faced difficulties navigating through waterlogged roads in various parts of the city. Heavy rain caused a traffic jam on Hoshangabad Road, with vehicles stranded in the rain. Jyoti Talkies and the Board Office also witnessed a traffic jam, with the entire stretch waterlogged.

Low-lying areas like Shiv Nagar, Oriya Basti, and gas victims' colonies faced severe waterlogging, having experienced the same issue on Monday. Aishbag, predominantly low-lying, saw rainwater enter houses and shops, causing problems for residents. In Jumerati, traders faced waterlogging on roads, impacting the wholesale market. At Hanuman Mandir, motorists had to wade through heavy waterlogged roads, leading to a long traffic jam of vehicles, particularly four-wheelers.

Waterlogging was also reported at RCVP Noronha Academy and Alpana Tiraha (Hamidia Road) in Old Bhopal. Kolar, with several low-lying colonies and apartment basements, faced waterlogging due to overflowing local drains and insufficient civic infrastructure. The most affected areas included Lalita Nagar, Nayapura, Mandakini Colony, Sarvdham Colony, and parts of Kolar Road.

Traffic jams caused chaos in the Kolar area, and a meeting scheduled for a flood meeting was postponed in Madhya Pradesh.
