BCI One-Time Conditional Approval Clears Path For Over 100 Maharashtra Law Colleges To Rejoin Admission Process

Maharashtra's law aspirants are set for a significant relief as the Bar Council of India (BCI) has granted one-time conditional approval to 100+ law colleges in the state, enabling them to rejoin the Centralized Admission Process (CAP). Published on the BCI website, the official notice announced that the decision pertains to the 2026-27 academic session.

The 357 law colleges in Maharashtra saw many outside the approved list by the deadline of August 11, 2026, for CAP Round-I submission. The BCI's exceptional measure allows existing eligible Centres of Legal Education (CLEs) to partake in the ongoing admission process, provided they meet the prescribed conditions. The approval is confined to existing CLEs, their existing law courses, approved sections, and sanctioned intake.

Colleges must possess valid university affiliation for the 2026-27 academic year and ensure verification of BCI records. The colleges granted approval have until August 31, 2026, to finalize the process on the BCI portal by submitting the necessary documents and paying all applicable fees and dues. The order does not waive or regularize past non-compliance or outstanding fees and excludes new law colleges, courses, additional sections, or increased sanctioned intake.

The decision is strictly limited to Maharashtra and the 2026-27 academic session, not serving as a precedent for other states or future sessions.
