Atif Aslam reacts to India ban, thanks those who banned him: ‘Fans are listening over VPN’

Atif Aslam has shared his thoughts on being banned from performing in India for nearly a decade, expressing gratitude to his Indian fans who continue to listen to his music despite the restrictions. The Pakistani singer explained that his absence from the Indian music industry coincided with a wider decision affecting Pakistani artists, with the Indian government banning Pakistani performers in 2016.

The restrictions intensified following heightened tensions between the two nations, culminating in the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association passing a resolution against hiring Pakistani artists in 2019. Despite not releasing any music in India, Atif Aslam's fans have continued to access his songs through VPNs and CDs. He encouraged his Indian fans, stating that if they truly love his music, they will find ways to listen to it.

Atif Aslam also reflected on the positive impact of the ban, noting that it allowed him to explore his independent music career and develop his own style.
