Amrit Bharat train records 173% occupancy on New Jalpaiguri-Nagercoil route

The Amrit Bharat train running between New Jalpaiguri and Nagercoil has experienced an extraordinary 173% occupancy, indicating a surge in passenger demand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the train on January 17, 2026. The train is tailored for passengers from lower and lower-middle income groups, offering a travel experience akin to the Vande Bharat Express.

Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway, shared that the train between New Jalpaiguri and Nagercoil saw exceptional response between January and July 2026. The Amrit Bharat train between New Jalpaiguri and Nagercoil had a remarkable 173% occupancy, while train number 20604 Nagercoil-New Jalpaiguri recorded 160%.

Sharma stated that the robust occupancy levels signify passengers' growing inclination towards enhanced connectivity, comfortable travel, and superior passenger services. Other Amrit Bharat services also displayed high occupancy, including the New Jalpaiguri-Tiruchchirappalli service with 159%, Tiruchchirappalli-New Jalpaiguri service with 150%, Kamakhya-Rohtak service with 138%, Gomti Nagar-Dibrugarh with 144%, SMVT Bengaluru-Alipurduar Jn. with 151%, and Charlapalli-Kamakhya with 135%.

The consistently high occupancy figures of these advanced train services underscore the immense popularity of improved rail connectivity between the Northeast and key destinations across the country. The enthusiastic passenger response also reflects the escalating demand for comfortable, convenient, and improved train services.
