American Airlines resumes its seasonal Montevideo-Miami route in December

American Airlines will resume its seasonal flight service between Montevideo, Uruguay and Miami, Florida on December 3rd, marking the only provider of nonstop flights between the two countries during the peak summer period. This marks a return of a service that the airline suspends annually outside of the tourist season, rather than reviving a discontinued route.

The frequency of flights has been extended compared to previous cycles, with daily operations continuing until March 2nd, 2027 - three weeks longer than the previous schedule. Beginning in March, the route will operate three times per week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, until March 28th, 2027. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, capable of seating 234 passengers, will offer 20 Business class seats, 28 in Premium Economy and 186 in the main cabin.

Miami-bound flights will depart at 10:55 PM and arrive in Montevideo at 10:10 AM the following day, while flights from Carrasco International Airport to Miami will depart at 10:30 PM, landing at 5:45 AM. Times are subject to change. The journey typically takes around nine hours. Pascual Álvarez, American Airlines' managing director of operations for South America, Central America and the Caribbean, expressed delight in reopening the route for the summer peak season, noting the service caters to both international travelers visiting Uruguay and Uruguayan passengers flying from Miami to other destinations.

Miami serves as the airline's primary international connecting hub, with over 400 daily flights to more than 200 destinations during peak season. Aeropuertos Uruguay, the terminal's concession holder, sees the route's reactivation as strengthening Uruguay's access to the United States and expanding travel options for passengers seeking connections to new international destinations.

Matías Carluccio, commercial director of Aeropuertos Uruguay, added that the company will continue supporting the growth of air connectivity. American Airlines has been operating in Uruguay for nearly three decades, with the Miami connection being the sole direct route between the South American country and U.S. territory, coinciding with the busiest tourist season in the region.
