Air Travel Becomes 35% More Expensive After US-Iran War

Rising tensions between Iran and the United States have significantly impacted airlines and the global aviation industry, affecting countries such as Pakistan. The increased fuel prices and frequent airspace closures have led to soaring operating costs. Passengers are now facing an additional 30 to 35 percent increase in travel expenses, while airlines have raised freight and ticket charges by 40 to 50 percent on certain routes.

The crisis has worsened following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has disrupted trade and forced businesses to rely more on air freight. Consequently, over 52,000 flights have been cancelled worldwide, with aviation operations in the Middle East particularly affected by airspace shutdowns. Approximately 6 million passengers have been directly affected by these disruptions.

India has suffered the most significant losses in South Asia, with regional air operations declining by 50 to 60 percent overall. Industry officials have warned that if the situation does not improve soon, several airlines may have to suspend their operations. They have stated that the already weakened aviation sector, still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, is now experiencing one of its most challenging periods in recent years.
