‘AI발 위기 공감’ 세계 국립도서관장들, 공동선언도 보류…“더 강력하게”

41 national library directors from around the world gathered in Busan to explore a coordinated response to the AI crisis, forming a working group to discuss the issue in earnest. The initial plan was to present a "Busan Declaration" built on the foundation of "establishing a trustworthy information environment," but the call for a "stronger declaration" led to a decision to gather more opinions.

N.C. Library Director Chung Hwan Kim, who is also the Polish Library Director, proposed that by the end of November this year, each national library should provide their views on the Busan Declaration proposal, which was then put on hold. The National Central Library had planned to prepare a 13-point Busan Declaration, including protecting the preservation of knowledge heritage, ensuring information integrity and reliability, and responsible and ethical AI usage.

However, when discussions began, some participants called for a stronger declaration. One attendee emphasized that the alliance must create a robust document that all national libraries can actually utilize, and some had a stronger demand for the declaration to serve as a "common institutional position and demand" to present to various governments, legislators, funding organizations, and international bodies.

Library Director Kim acknowledged the urgency of the issue, stating that they would like feedback on the declaration by the end of the month, as they believe exchanging more opinions will lead to a more comprehensive discussion.
