Newly elected Mayor Kim Dong-yun's administration is ushering in a systematic purge of senior officials across Gyeonggi-do's subordinate agencies. The officials serving in the Gyeonggi-do subordinate agencies are gradually stepping down from their positions ahead of the new administration's tenure. As of 13th May, Gyeonggi-do Subordinate Agency President, Kang Seong-chun, had already resigned on the same day.

Kang was appointed as Gyeonggi-do Subordinate Agency President by the former mayor Kim Dong-yun in May last year, and his term was set to end in April 2028. Kang had worked under Kim Dong-yun as the Director-General of Gyeonggi-do Economic and Science Development Institute. The president expressed his desire for someone who shares his political philosophy and philosophy of governance to lead the agency.

This is the second time in a row senior officials from Kim Dong-yun's administration are stepping down. In January, the representative of the Gyeonggi-do Women's Family Foundation resigned after serving only a year in the position.

Currently, there are 24 subordinate agencies under Gyeonggi-do's jurisdiction, along with four construction projects such as the Gyeonggi Housing Development Corporation (GH), Gyeonggi-Pyeongtaek Port Development Corporation, and Gyeonggi-do Transportation Corporation. Since January 1st of this year, the term of office for subordinate agencies and the Gyeonggi-do Subordinate Agency President has been aligned to ensure continuity in the policy philosophy.

The 'Regulations on the Term of Office of Subordinate Agency Presidents' will take effect, requiring the president to terminate the term of subordinate agency presidents who are appointed by the incoming president before they take office. However, this regulation only applies to newly appointed subordinate agency presidents, and existing subordinate agency presidents or those not subject to direct appointment will not be affected.

Despite the systematic resignation of senior officials appointed by Kim Dong-yun, they are voluntarily stepping down. The continuous resignation of officials appointed during the Kim Dong-yun administration raises questions about whether there will be a wave of voluntary resignations and organizational restructuring among the remaining senior officials appointed during his tenure.
