4 doctors booked after Surat medical student dies by suicide over ragging

Four senior resident doctors at Government Medical College, Surat, have been booked for wrongful confinement and causing mental harassment following the alleged suicide of junior resident doctor Harsh Pandya. The FIR was filed at Khatodara police station based on a complaint from college dean Dr Jayesh Brahmbhatt. The accused - Nirali Vasave, Anuj Maheshwari, Dishita Gevariya, and Hinaben Bhut - were suspended for six months after the anti-ragging committee found them involved in harassing 10 first-year students, including Pandya.

On August 5, one of the accused, Dr Gevariya, allegedly sent a WhatsApp message to a group of first-year Post Graduate Microbiology students, forcing them to sit in the laboratory for two hours and subjecting them to mental harassment through abusive language and insults. Dr Pandya was found dead in his hostel room on August 9. The 12-member anti-ragging committee, headed by Dr Chandresh Tailor, conducted extensive interviews and recorded statements from over 90 individuals, including fellow students, faculty members, lab technicians, and Pandya's parents.
