2027: Ezekwesili reaffirms support for Obi

Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has reiterated her backing for Peter Obi, the presidential hopeful of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, as the 2027 elections approach. She also urged for a new approach that prioritizes national governance, human dignity, and a proper national design. Ezekwesili, who previously served as the World Bank's Africa region vice president and co-founded the #BringBackOurGirls movement, made these remarks on Arise TV's 'Prime Time' show.

She emphasized that, following the same criteria she used to support her preferred presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, she would still back Obi. "In 2023, I made it very clear that, using the criteria on which I see leadership either fail or succeed to govern well… the other two candidates score considerably lower than what you would assign to former Governor Obi, and so I was going to stand with Governor Obi," she stated.

Ezekwesili cautioned against making Obi or any other presidential candidate the sole focus of Nigeria's future debates and urged Nigerians to concentrate on the construct. She lamented the low level of dignity attached to human life and the poor state of governance in the country.
