2 dozen schools in Jammu’s Rajouri closed, CRPF deployed. Reason: Stray dogs on biting spree

On Monday, 24 schools in the Kotranka block of Rajouri district, Jammu, were ordered closed by the administration. The decision was made following the alleged bites of nine people by stray dogs over the past two days. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kotranka, Dil Mir Choudhary, directed the deployment of police, CRPF personnel, an executive magistrate, and village defence guards to capture the dangerous canines.

The closure affected both government and private schools across multiple panchayats in the block. The dogs' presence posed a significant threat to public safety, especially for schoolchildren. Some locals suggested that three dogs, not just one, were responsible for the incidents. One of the dogs was reportedly killed by a villager with a stick on Monday evening after it attacked another resident.

The ADC also ordered the vaccination of stray dogs in the affected area and requested local officers to maintain close coordination for the safe capture and examination of the canines.
