2 dozen schools in Jammu’s Rajouri closed, CRPF deployed. Reason: Stray dogs on biting spree

On Monday, nearly two dozen schools in the Kotranka block of Rajouri district, Jammu, were ordered to close by the district administration. The decision was made to capture stray dogs that had allegedly bitten nine people over the past two days. This order, issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dil Mir Choudhary, affected both government and private schools across several panchayats in the block.

The dogs, reportedly still roaming freely, posed a serious threat to public safety, particularly for school-going children. The order also directed the deployment of police, CRPF personnel, and village defence guards, along with an executive magistrate and animal welfare protocols. One of the dogs was reportedly killed by a local villager after biting another resident. The closure was also attributed to adverse weather forecasts by the Meteorological Department.
