An 11-year-old boy from Chungnam's city of Cheonan was found dead in his church on the evening of the 5th. The church, located just behind a gas station on a major road, had been visited by the boy alone in the early hours of the morning, and he returned home after being found by citizens. The boy was located at the police station after two days of being reported for suspicion of child abuse.

The guardian, an elderly woman, claimed that the boy lived at a different location, not at the church. The boy was later transferred to a university hospital due to high fever, but he passed away three hours later at midnight. Medical personnel noted marks on the boy's wrists and ankles, suggesting he had been restrained. Police officials said that the church's officials had reported that the boy was frequently alone outside, leading to his confinement and physical abuse.

The guardian claimed that she had been restraining the boy for 38 hours straight, from the time she first tied him up to the moment she loosened the restraints. The guardian said that she had repeatedly beaten the boy and that he died due to negligence in his upbringing. The guardian continued to take the boy to the church, and the police were unable to intervene.

The church suggested transferring the boy to another protective facility, but this was not carried out due to the child's psychological and behavioral characteristics. Police requested a restraining order to prevent the guardian from approaching the boy, but the court denied the request. The guardian was eventually taken into custody after a hearing on the 11th.

After the hearing, the guardian only said "Sorry" in response to questions about whether she admitted to child abuse or why she left the boy alone with the church. Police are continuing to investigate other adults who lived at the church.
