Young minds, big ideas as Luv FM High School Debate enters 7th edition

The Luv FM Kel Charcoal Toothpaste High School Debate is set to commence in its seventh edition, gathering senior high school students from across the Ashanti Region. This annual inter-schools competition provides a platform for young minds to engage in vigorous debates on pressing national issues, such as illegal mining, flooding, rising fuel prices, education, corruption, and social injustice. Over 20 schools have qualified for the main competition, having proven their skills in preliminary rounds.

Event Coordinator Eric Nkoom emphasizes that the competition is not solely about determining the best debating school, but rather in exposing young people to national challenges and encouraging them to develop practical solutions. He urges teachers to allow students to conduct their own research, rather than relying solely on prepared debate scripts, in order to foster independent perspectives and innovative responses.

In the past, participants have gained scholarship opportunities both locally and internationally, as well as honed their research, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. The organisers aim to nurture informed, confident, and responsible young people who can contribute meaningfully to Ghana's development. Winners will be rewarded for their hard work and creative submissions, and the competition will be broadcast live on various media platforms.
