Yo La Tengo, Kathleen Hanna, Corin Tucker, & More Cover Yoko Ono At The Broad’s Tribute Show

On Saturday evening, a lineup of distinguished musicians congregated at the Broad Museum in Los Angeles to honor the memory of Yoko Ono, the renowned 93-year-old pioneer of avant-garde art and music. Although the iconic figure herself was absent, the event, titled "Yoko Only: A Night Celebrating the Music of Yoko Ono," showcased a slew of indie and alternative luminaries performing Ono's compositions.

Yuka Honda, former member of Cibo Matto and her spouse Wilco's Nels Cline curated the tribute; they also played in the house band. Yo La Tengo, who have collaborated with Ono multiple times and contributed to the 2022 Ono tribute compilation "Ocean Child," were among the guest performers. Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo sang a tribute to the Beatles, dedicating his rendition of "What Did I Do!" to the band, jokingly mentioning their recent reconciliation.

The evening's program also included covers of "No, No, No" by Bikini Kill and "Sisters O Sisters" by Sleater-Kinney, as well as "Walking On Thin Ice" by Corin Tucker. Rufus Wainwright belted out "I'm Going Away Smiling," and Tune-Yards' Merrill Garbus began the night with "We Are All Water." Deerhoof's Satomi Matsuzaki performed "Tabetai," while other artists like Finom, Maggie Perkins, Patrick Shiroishi, Theo Bleckmann, Dave Harrington of Darkside, and Ono's granddaughter Emi Helfrich also graced the stage. The night concluded with a grand finale performance of "Woman Power."
