When a Maharashtra minister walked out of his own meeting

In Maharashtra, Education Minister Dada Bhuse abruptly walked out of a meeting when discussion shifted to finances, causing concern among officials. The sudden announcement of over 30,000 teacher positions, regularisation of 3,000 contractual employees and the launch of a 'Super 100' programme for JEE and NEET preparation marked a flurry of activity in the state's School Education Department. However, this flurry of announcements came amid calls for Bhuse's resignation over the contentious TET exam leak.

Meanwhile, a routine district-level healthcare review in north Maharashtra took an uncomfortable turn when officials raised concerns about funding shortages. The district's chronic lack of resources was highlighted, with challenges in transporting medicines to rural hospitals on time becoming a pressing issue. This sensitive matter was not one the minister was prepared to address, leading him to abruptly exit the meeting.

Outside the realm of formal petitions, the Bombay High Court recently voiced concerns over civic issues at the grassroots level. Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge noted the selective enforcement by the Nashik Municipal Corporation, citing a retired judge's complaint about loud music from a marriage hall disturbing his sleep until 4 am, despite numerous complaints. Earlier, the court had also highlighted the municipality's failure to provide water to former judges living in other cities on a regular basis.
