Speak out against terrorism, banditry, Tinubu urges clerics

President Bola Tinubu has called on religious leaders to use their influence to combat terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and the misuse of faith to justify violence. During a goodwill message delivered at the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani in Kano, Tinubu emphasized the crucial role religious institutions and networks can play in promoting peace education, religious literacy, scholarship and moral development among young people.

He urged these leaders to consistently raise their voices against the murder of innocent people, and to remind political leaders of the importance of justice, responsibility and compassion. Tinubu highlighted the Tijjaniyya community's extensive spiritual networks across West Africa and beyond, and its potential to contribute to reconciliation, counter violent extremism, guide the youth and provide humanitarian support.

He reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to regional cooperation, counter-terrorism, maritime security, economic integration and dialogue, while assuring the preservation of freedom of worship and strengthening collaboration with religious and traditional institutions.
