Volkswagen just gave the Atlas Cross Sport more power, more features, and more personality

Volkswagen has revamped its Atlas Cross Sport, giving it a more dynamic appearance and enhanced features. The 2027 version boasts a refreshed exterior, an upscale interior, and increased horsepower. Arriving early next year, it will serve as the sportier counterpart to the larger Atlas SUV. Based on the updated MQB Evo platform, the new Cross Sport measures approximately 4,968mm in length, about 127mm shorter than the three-row Atlas.

The lower profile and a steeply raked rear roofline contribute to its sporty aesthetics. Other exterior enhancements include stacked LED headlights, illuminated VW badges on all trims except the base model, and a flush-mounted tailgate. New color options include Blackberry Metallic. Inside, the redesign features a wraparound dashboard, wood trim, contrast stitching, and ambient lighting to replace a more utilitarian cabin.

Every trim now offers a 12-way adjustable driver's seat, with upper trims adding full-back massage for the front passengers. The 2027 Cross Sport will feature a 15-inch infotainment display, standard on nearly 90% of the lineup, and a new physical dial for volume and drive mode control. Additionally, a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard across all models.

Power is provided by an upgraded turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 282 horsepower, a 13hp increase, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and optional 4Motion all-wheel drive. Pricing details have yet to be announced, but the redesign is expected to carry significant financial implications as the Atlas family currently accounts for around a third of Volkswagen's US sales.
