Trump says US 'low-keying it' with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his readiness to intensify economic pressure on Iran, seemingly shifting away from contemplating further military actions, even as the Islamic Republic lays down stringent demands. According to Axios, which interviewed Trump via a brief phone conversation, he indicated his administration is "low-keying it."

This stance contrasts with Trump's recent escalation of threats against Iran, which he subsequently retreated from, as he pursues a deal aimed at ending the conflict he instigated with Israel on February 28. Axios reported that Trump did not voice any displeasure over Iran's delay in reaching an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has insisted that the U.S. first ceases its blockade of Iranian ports and lifts oil sanctions, as stipulated in the memorandum of understanding both nations signed in June. The ongoing blockade of the strait, initiated by Iran following the outbreak of the war, has led to soaring fuel prices and global economic turmoil, exerting pressure on the Trump administration amidst the approaching midterm elections.

Axios quoted Trump as saying, "We are only semi-negotiating with them. We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation."
