'She did not do this to herself': Mother of Black woman found hanging says

The mother of Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old Black woman found hanging from a tree in Jackson, Mississippi, expressed her devastation over her daughter's death. Spivey, Christy Spivey, described her daughter as strong-minded, full of laughter, love, and faith. She stated that her daughter, a mother of four, had recently traveled from Mississippi to Kentucky for a family reunion before being found.

Spivey was confident that her daughter had not taken her own life, saying, "She did not do this to herself. I know my daughter and she did not do this to herself." The Jackson Police Department is actively investigating the case, though they did not provide further details. The Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Jackson City Council member Kenneth Stokes reached out to the U.S. Attorney's office for assistance in the investigation, as per a letter obtained by ABC News. The police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or seek help for themselves or others struggling with suicidal thoughts.
