Taylor Farms recalls jalapeno products after salmonella outbreak

Food manufacturer Taylor Farms is recalling a range of its fresh products containing jalapeno peppers due to a salmonella outbreak. The multinational company, which manufactures 40% of all salad kits sold in the United States last year, announced the recall of around 20 products including dips, sandwiches, pico de gallo salsa, guacamole, burritos and sliced jalapenos.

The recall spans across 26 US states, although the company does not know of any illnesses linked to the products. The recall follows a recent cyclospora outbreak linked to Taylor Farms lettuce, which has affected thousands of people. Coast Citrus Distributors, a supplier of jalapenos to Taylor Farms, also recalled its fresh jalapenos due to salmonella concerns.

Taylor Farms has identified a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, as the source of the outbreak and will no longer source products from this farmer, filling orders from alternative suppliers instead. Consumers are advised to discard any recalled products immediately and not consume them. Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Salmonella contamination typically leads to illness within 12 to 72 hours, with symptoms including diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

Taylor Farms is a major supplier to retail giants Walmart, Costco, and Target, as well as restaurant chains including Taco Bell and McDonald's.
